Innate immune response in avian macrophages elicited by Chlamydia psittaci Aangeboren immuniteit van aviaire macrofagen geïnduceerd door Chlamydia psittaci
Chlamydia psittaci is a gram-negative, obligate, intracellular bacterium, which mainly infects birds and mammals. Not much is known about innate immunity initiated by C. psittaci. The focus of the present study is on chicken macrophage activation and expression of cytokine, chemokine, caspase-1, iNOS and TLR genes during the early phase and mid-cycle period of the developmental cycle of the hig...
متن کاملChlamydia psittaci in birds of prey, Sweden
BACKGROUND Chlamydia psittaci is an intracellular bacterium primarily causing respiratory diseases in birds but may also be transmitted to other animals, including humans. The prevalence of the pathogen in wild birds in Sweden is largely unknown. METHODS DNA was extracted from cloacae swabs and screened for C. psittaci by using a 23S rRNA gene PCR assay. Partial 16S rRNA and ompA gene fragmen...
متن کاملModulation of P2Z/P2X(7) receptor activity in macrophages infected with Chlamydia psittaci.
Given the role that extracellular ATP (ATP(o))-mediated apoptosis may play in inflammatory responses and in controlling mycobacterial growth in macrophages, we investigated whether ATP(o) has any effect on the viability of chlamydiae in macrophages and, conversely, whether the infection has any effect on susceptibility to ATP(o)-induced killing via P2Z/P2X(7) purinergic receptors. Apoptosis of ...
متن کاملEchocardiographic follow-up of Chlamydia psittaci myocarditis.
Chlamydia psittaci myocarditis has been infrequently reported. A case of serologically confirmed C psittaci myocarditis with dilated left ventricle and severely impaired left ventricular function is described. Serial echocardiograms demonstrated complete recovery after therapy. An early diagnosis has important prognostic implications.
متن کاملDetection of Chlamydia psittaci by immunofluorescence.
A direct fluorescent-antibody (FA) test was developed to detect Chlamydia psittaci in dural impressions from specimen-inoculated mice. Technical procedures for the test were compared. C. psittaci was found in mice after infection as early by the FA technique as it was by cytochemical staining methods usually used. The lymphogranuloma venereum organism was also stained by conjugated antibody to ...
